Learning Response 3

This is the third learning response. I wanted to learn how to do a search bar on my website and so I was looking up sources and I found several. But Google Adsense made it so that I would also make money at the same time for having a search bar of theirs on my website. I thought that was cool. So here is what I learned.

Google AdSense

Overview

Google has provided you with a search bar that you can add anywhere on your website. This search bar can be set up to search only your website or you can have it search the entire website. Either way it then gives you code for a landing page or a place where the results from the search can show up. You can have google provide you with their own page/tab or you can have the results embeded within your website somewhere. The way you make money is that when someone searches using your search bar the see a list of results. Next or above the results there is some pages that are advertisments that closely match your search results. If someone clicks on that you can make some money. If no one clicks on it then you dont make anything but either way a search engine and search bar is provided for you. This is a very good thing so you dont have to pay for a search engine on your site.

Search bars are a good tool for visitors and usually they are used periodically by the viewer to find something they are looking for on your website or just to search for something else they need that maybe your website made them think about. Either way its a convience thing and instead of reinventing the wheel you can just use Google AdSense search bar to have them do the work.

Implementation

Google gives you two sets of code. The first is the actual search bar that you can place anywhere on your website. As you can see below I added the search bar to this website for example (SEE BELOW). This code is pretty long. Here is what it looks like:

There is an extra style element that also needs to be added to the header of the page that they website is on for the search bar to work. If you would like to see this style element in the head section please right click anywhere on this page and go to view code.

The second set of code google provides is for your search results. I choose the options that I wanted the results to land or show up on a web within my website so they can easily come back to any part of my website with ease. This code can be found on my search results page. To get there please type anything in the search bar below, click search and then a page will load with some results on it. On that page right click anywhere and then go to view code and you can see in the content section the code that google provided. If you have any questions contact me. Thanks.
